According to Peter Beales, Roger Phillips, and Martyn Rix, this is the true Bloomfield Abundance, and those guys are the gurus, in my opinion. Whether or not it is a sport of Cecil Brunner is not the question (it may be). But these guys all list the small-budded, long-sepeled plant as the Bloomfield. And I have grown them both side by side, and I do see many differences. Cecile Brunner is rounded, early blooming, and stockier. The Bloomfield Abundance is spindlier, late blooming, and has those long sepals. Over here in CA, there is also quite a bit of controversy regarding this rose. People swear by the found, large pink rose now attributed to Bloomfield Abundance. But I will stick with the Beales, Phillips, etc, school as I have been observing them for years and see a difference and where that large pink rose came from is a mystery.

Peter Beales and many others conclude that Cecile Brunner and Bloomfield Abuindance are NOT the same rose. We have both and my Bloomfield Abundance has been growing here for over 70 years old. Bloomfield has the long sepels. These are missing from Cecil Brunner. Bloomfoeld Abundance blooms about a month later than Cecil Brunner. There are many other differences and most experts agree the two roses are different AND that the large pink rose mentioned by some is not Bloomfield Abundance. We hope this will be changed in your database.

According to Peter Beales "Roses book, Roger Phillips Random House "Book of Roses", Trevor Griffiths "Book of Old Roses, Botanica's "Roses among others this is the true Bloomfield Abundance not that large HT pink one also shown, I have been growing both Cecil Brunner and Bloomfield Abundance (aka Spray Cecile Brunner for years and there is a distinct difference. Of course, there is the elongated sepals on the Bloomfield Abundance but also the Bloomfield Abundance, despite a true similarity except for the elongated sepels also blooms much later than the Cecile Brunner-definitely a different rose in my opinion. I raise them both for sale and have observed both for years. I have a Bloomfield Abundance mother plant in my backyard that is over 70 years old.
