'Du Mortier' rose Reviews & Comments

What is written in the comment by Donald's Roses Garden about this variety is very correct. It's not a typical Gallica. 'Dumortier' makes a good-sized, branching, thorny shrub, larger than most Gallicas and little disposed to sucker (my two plants are grafted, and have been in the ground about ten years). Its heavy, bendy growth reminds me rather of the Damasks. I tend to forget about it, though the shrub and flowers are both handsome, but in a good year it can be very good indeed, and if I ever started another garden 'Dumortier' would be welcome to come live there. I can't comment about its hardiness as I live in a mild climate, but the plant is healthy and vigorous.
