Bred by Captain George C. Thomas (United States, 1914).
Introduced in United States by Bobbink & Atkins in 1920 as 'Dr. Huey'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1922 as 'Dr. Huey'.

Class:

Climber, Hybrid Wichurana, Large-Flowered Climber.

Bloom:

Crimson, light yellow stamens. Mild fragrance. 15 petals. Average diameter 2". Medium, semi-double (9-16 petals), in small clusters bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer. Medium buds.

Habit:

Climbing, few or no prickles/thorns.

Height: 10' to 12' (305 to 365cm). Width: 8' (245cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b and warmer. Very vigorous. Disease susceptibility: susceptible to Mildew. Prune after flowering is finished.

Notes:

The name for this rose was announced at the meeting of the American Rose Society held in the Bloomfield Gardens on 4 June 1919. Dr. Robert Huey died on 12 March 1928.

'Dr. Huey' does well in alkaline soil.
