Nursery first established by Max Goos as M. J. Goos on August 1, 1885. On February 1, 1887 August Koenemann joins as Partner and the nursery is renamed Goos & Koenemann. August Koenemann died 1910 and Max Goos in 1917. Hermann Goos (b. July 10, 1894), the elder son of Max Goos, joined the company in 1913 as an apprentice, but left 1914 for World War I. After the war he finalized his studies as a Doctor and philosophy and re-entered the Company in 1922. Dr. Hermann Goos died on February 23, 1933. Goos & Koenemann was managed by Friedrich Bücher (b. February 22, 1873) until 1951.
[From The World of Little Irises: 1957-1959, no. 8-10, p. 203:] Dr. Hermann Goos died in 1933 in consequence of the fatigues of the war, we may assume that he was not older than 37 years. With him the family name of Goos vanished. Freidrich [sic] Bucher was left over as manager and successor of Goos & Koenemann, the firm continuing under this name....Goos & Koenemann Nurseries were also immersed in night and darkness . Nothing is known about the hard years from 1945 to 1953 , when the firm passed into other hands and with this the name and work really ended . Friedrich Bucher was dead . Only a few of the irises were on hand when the " Erfurter Samenzucht und Handelsgesellschaft K.G. ( I. Weigelt ) " purchased the firm . No papers or ...
