'Koningin Astrid' rose References
Book (Apr 1993) Page(s) 291. Koningin Astrid ('Queen Astrid') Hybrid Tea, reddish apricot and bonze, 1935; Leenders, M...
Book (1940) p125. Mr. Frank Mason. The Newer Roses in New Zealand Queen Astrid is a splendid Rose, both in growth and freedom of bloom. The colour is given as a reddish apricot, and I do not think I could improve on that description. It is outstanding in quality and growth. Everyone who has seen this Rose is charmed with it. It is a decided improvement.
p126. Mr R. T. Hamilton, Vic. Picking Winners Among the New Roses. Queen Astrid is a good Rose for those who like the decorative type. A splendid grower, with heavy foliage, it is a good colour, and the petals are very large and thick. It does not have sufficient petals to make an exhibition bloom.
Book (1939) p115. T. G. Stewart, Vic. New Roses That Have Proved Themselves Queen Astrid.- Not quite enough petals, but nice decorative. Excellent growth and habit.
p126. Mr Frank Mason, N.Z. Roses and the Dry Weather Mrs. E. A. Laxton and Queen Astrid are growing side by side, and one has been trying to outdo the other.
Book (1938) p107. John Poulsen, NZ. Roses in the South Island Queen Astrid. Good growth and foliage; has given some very fine blooms of good colour, and seems an acquisition.
p121. Mr C. W. Heers. Roses in Queensland Queen Astrid has a very compact bud of rich Persian yellow, developing apricot and bronze. Long, full and shapely blooms of novel colouring. If the growth succeeds, then this variety will be an acquisition.
p123. Mr S. J. Bisdee. Tasmanian Roses. Queen Astrid has lovely colouring, a blend of pink and apricot, but there is just a suspicion that it may tend to ball. If it improves in this respect it should be very fine. It has good, leathery foliage, but is taking mildew rather badly now. Growth has been only moderate.
Website/Catalog (1938) Page(s) 37. Bush Roses Queen Astrid (Hybrid Tea)... Buds Persian yellow, open flowers reddish apricot and bronze, A beautiful combination of colours. Flowers are large and full, carried on long strong stems. Strong growth and free flowering. A superb novelty. Highly perfumed. Introduced 1936.
Website/Catalog (1938) Page(s) 46. New Roses 1937. Queen Astrid (HT. M. Leenders 1935) F. 3. .....This variety is a definite acquisition with an attractive and novel colour, while still retaining the long petalled type of the old H.T. The growth is vigorous but not very bushy. E.
Website/Catalog (1938) Page(s) 18.
Book (1937) p18. Harry H. Hazlewood. The New Roses of 1937. Coppery and Fancy. Holland takes the lead this year with Queen Astrid, HT.(Leenders, 1935), which is a definite acquisition. The buds are extra long, with 30 petals, while the colour is particularly attractive. There are more real novelties in this section than in any other colour, and to win first place in hot competition indicates unusual quality in this Dutch Rose.
p116. Allan A. Brundrett. A Victorian Review of the Season's Novelties. Queen Astrid, H.T. (Leenders).—A yellow and apricot variety which has gained four gold medals, but so far it has been very indifferent. With those awards it is surely worth watching.
Website/Catalog (1937) Page(s) 41. New Roses 1937. Queen Astrid (HT. M. Leenders 1935). Buds persian yellow, opening to flowers of reddish apricot and bronze. The flowers are large, full and fragrant, and are carried on long, strong stems. Strong growth and free flowering. 5/-each. A very definite acquisition. Extra long buds of 30 petals, while the colour is attractive and novel.
Magazine (Feb 1936) Page(s) 13. Resultats officiels du Concours de Rome. ....Certificat de premier mérite à la Rose hybride thé Koningin Astrid, de la Maison M. Leenders et Co, de Steyl-Tegelen (Hollande).
