Origin:
Bred by Walter Pennell (United Kingdom, circa 1954).
Introduced in United Kingdom by Pennell & Sons Nursery in 1961 as 'Mrs. N. Thompson'.
Class:
Early Large Flowered.  
Bloom:
Blue, red center.  6 to 8 petals.  Average diameter 6".  Single, scalloped edge bloom form.  Late spring to early summer, early autumn.  
Habit:

Height: 6' to 8' (185 to 245cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Plant in sun or partial shade.  Suitable for growing in a container.  It blooms on the previous year's growth, so resist the urge to prune it in early spring.
