July 2024. Tallinn, Estonia. Zone 6b. Second-year plant after the harshest winter Estonia has seen for 50 years, with no winter protection. The whole plant was lost after a series of spring freezes, but short sticks I left in the ground started to bud vigorously. No winter protection at all.

July 2024. Tallinn, Estonia. Zone 6b. Second-year plant after the harshest winter Estonia has seen in 50 years, with no winter protection and no second food. The first year the stems drooped under the weight of the flowers, but in the second year, rejuvenated from the 5 cm sticks I had left in the ground to see what would happen when everything froze, the new stems grew quite strong and held their flowers straight all the time. Despite the windy location, the flowers remained intact for at least three weeks, perhaps longer. The stems are thin and delicate but incredibly strong, thorny, and straight. They hold the flowers well. Also worth mentioning is the foliage, which is the most stunning mat olive-green warm shade, also very healthy, and gently spaced on the stems, as if drawn. The red colour has a bluish/magenta tinge.
