July 2024. Tallinn, Estonia. Zone 6a/b. Second-year plant after the harshest winter Estonia has seen in 50 years, with no winter protection at all and no second feed. The first year the stems drooped under the weight of the flowers, but in the second year, the plant rejuvenated from the 5 cm (dead-looking) sticks I had left in the ground to see what would happen, and the new stems were stronger and held flowers well. Despite the windy location, the flowers remained intact for at least three weeks. The stems were thin and delicate but incredibly strong, thorny, and straight. They held the flowers well. The foliage is the most stunning mat olive-green, very healthy, and gently spaced on the stems, as if drawn. The red colour has a bluish/magenta tinge.
