Sénégal is a favourite of mine, its first bloom is impressive, hypnotic flowers, as I said before very dark, velvety, yet glowing, and so scented ! Almost thornless. It is young, but would probably be huge if I didn't cut it. I am trying to grow it untrained, but the wind is messing with the strong but flexible canes it is regularly throwing. I thought planting it with a black sambucus would give support and some shade, but Sénégal is actually interfering with the sambucus' growth. I have to improve my cutting/training skills. Here is the point of this picture : I do not spray roses, and this one regularly and almost completely defoliates. It is still full of strength, but can intermittently look bad even during Spring.
