Introduced in France by Joseph Schwartz / Veuve Schwartz in 1881 as 'Madame Adèlaïde Côte'.

Bloom:
Crimson, red center, ages to dark brown .  Strong fragrance.  Large, double (17-25 petals), ruffled bloom form.

According to Schmitt, 'Mme Adèlaïde Côte' was grown from unidentified seeds. He compares it to the HP 'Cardinal Patrizzi'. Other sources compare it to 'Sénateur Vaisse'.
Dedicated to Joséphine Augustine Marie Adélaide Degroso (May 26, 1853 Lyon - August 27, 1916), who married on May 18, 1881 Simon Antoine Alfred Côte (April 5, 1841 Lyon - February 23, 1892 Vanves), banker, son of Jean Marie (a.k.a. Marius) Côte (March 28, 1813 Tarare - January 16, 1887 Hyères), banker at "Garcin, Noailly et Côte" of Lyon.
