Und dennoch hat sich eine Blume gefunden, geeignet, wenn auch ihr Durchmesser um ein Drittel geringer, die Couronne des pourpres zu verdunkeln. Es ist die Bengale Madame Desrongé, reich gefüllt, in den Formen einer prächtigen Anemone, von dichtem sammetartigen Stoff und dunkelbrauner Färbung, neben welcher das Colorit der sogenannten schwarzen Malven erbleicht. Diese, im Pflanzenreich so seltene Färbung wird in ihrer Wirkung noch mehr gehoben durch Schattirungen von feurigem Purpur, die im Lichte schimmern.,,Lorsque nous sommes arrivés à cette plante, nous avons de suite oublié toutes les autres qui, à la vérité, ne pouvaient plus lutter avec le mérite d'un coloris que nous voyions pour la première fois et sur des fleurs parfaites." Madame Desrongé, deren Namen die Rose trägt, hatte auf gut Glück sechs Körner in einen Topf gesteckt, und fand jene Perle, während ein anderer Liebhaber in einer Aussaat von drei Morgen auch nicht eine der Erwähnung werthe Pflanze erzielte.
Translation:
And yet a flower has been found, suitable, even though its diameter is a third smaller, for darkening the Couronne des pourpres. It is the China Madame Desrongé, richly filled, in the form of a magnificent anemone, of dense velvety substance and dark brown in colour, next to which the coloring of the so-called black mallows pales. This colouration, so rare in the plant kingdom, is enhanced in its effect even more by shades of fiery purple that shimmer in the light "pouvaient plus lutter avec le mérite d'un coloris que nous voyions pour la première fois et sur des fleurs parfaites." Madame Desrongé, whose name the rose bears, had put six seeds in a pot by chance, and found that pearl while another lover, in a sowing of three acres, also did not produce a plant worthy of mention.
