Origin:
Bred by Desiré Thomas (France, 1853).
Introduced in Australia by Northampton Nurseries in 1861 as 'La Quintinie'.
Class:
Bourbon.  
Bloom:
Crimson to red, darker shading, ages to violet .  Average diameter 3.25".  Medium to large, double (17-25 petals), cluster-flowered, cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Glandular sepals, leafy sepals, ovoid buds.  
Habit:
Few or no prickles/thorns.  Large, glossy, dark green foliage.  3 to 5 leaflets.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
