"Benny Lopez" rose Description

Class:
Found Rose, Damask Perpetual.
Bloom:
Deep pink with a purple tone, (Sometimes described as "Cerise"). Color lightens almost to "shocking" pink in hot weather. Darkens to a deep, firey purple-tinged red in cool weather. Hundreds of petals, darker toward the center of the bloom.. Strong, damask, spice fragrance. Very full (41+ petals), borne mostly solitary, button-eye, old-fashioned, quartered, reflexed bloom form. Continuous (perpetual) bloom throughout the season. Long sepals, decorative buds.
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, sends out runners, suckers on its own roots. Large, semi-glossy, dark green foliage. 5 to 7 leaflets.
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Can be used for garden. Very vigorous. Disease susceptibility: disease resistant. Remove spent blooms to encourage re-bloom. Feed this rose well.

Notes:
"This unidentified Found Rose was collected in Santa Barbara, California, in the late 1950's. The original discoverer has grown it for a half-century, trimmed and trained as a standard, so we are still (2007) in the discovery phase as to its natural habit."
