Discovered by Louis Giraud d'Haussy (France, before 1853).
Introduced in Belgium by Louis van Houtte in 1854 as 'Madame Désirée Giraud'.

Bloom:

White and pink, dark red stripes. Mild fragrance. Large, full (26-40 petals), nodding or "weak neck" bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.

Armed with thorns / prickles.

Notes:

Dedicated to Marie Désirée d'Haussy (b. December 23, 1822 Artres, Nord) who married Louis Edouard Edmond Giraud (b. February 1, 1820 Aulnoy-les-Valenciennes, Nord) on March 27, 1844. She was the daughter of Jean Baptiste d'Haussy, mayor of Artres, and founder of the Sucreries d'Artres.

'Mme Désirée Giraud' in gardens and commerce seems to be 'Baronne Prévost'. The former seems to have been an unstable sport - see Reference of 1866 by Margottin. Margottin also states that 'Mme Désirée Giraud' can be discerned from 'Panachée d'Orléans' by its very fine and very numerous prickles, while the latter is almost thornless.
