I have grown and shown roses dating back to 1998 when I entered roses in the State Fair at Memphis, TN and then continued when I moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 2000 and became a member of the Louisville Rose Society and the American Rose Society. I took several first place awards but never did win any Best of Show while in Louisville. I moved to the Washington DC and Northern Virginia/West Virginia area in 2002 and remained a member of the American Rose Society and in 2005-2006 showed roses in the Arlington Rose Show, Richmond Rose Show in which my son Gavin won 3 of the Junior Exhibitor awards. Since moving to Purcellville, I had not been afforded much time to really dedicate the time I needed to re-establish the roses that I so love to grow. I have added the long love of photography to my list and after winning awards in 2013 at the Arlington Rose Show, I have taken the time to restablish my rose beds and have over 50 roses at this time for 2014. MY roses were not on bloom cycle with the rose shows in 2014 other than the Arlington Rose Show in June where I did let my son and his girlfriend enter roses in the junior category and they did come out a winner. However I have devoted this year in my roses and photography when they were in bloom and that has rewarded me with top honors at the Arlington Rose Foundation (ARF) show and also at the Colonial District show this fall in Richmond, VA. I have also entered rose photographs for the local ARF fall contest and the American Rose Society national photography contest. I have also accepted the role of Second Vice-President for the ARF Society and hope to contribute there with my love of roses and photography as a way for encouraging younger and older members alike to share the beauty of the rose for 2015.
