Born 1940 in Reykjavik Iceland. Chemical Engineer - Ph.d Univ. of Wisconsin, Madison USA . Administrator for science and technology in the public sector in Iceland 1968-2010. Personal interest in forestry and gardening for over 50 years with increasing focus on genuses betula, sorbus and rosa and their breeding after retirement in 2010. President of the Icelandic Horticultural Society 2007-2013. Chairman of the Rose Club of the IHS 2013- present. Main emphasis on searching for species and varieties that can adapt to the rather harsh climate of Iceland, characterized by variable winter temperatures, cool summers and wet and windy weather all year round.
