Mel Hulse graduated from the San Jose State University to become a US Air
Force pilot with combat in Korea and Vietnam. Retiring as a colonel, he
returned to his native San Jose, California and joined Lockheed as an
engineer. After his second retirement, Mel answered a call for help in
preparing and planting the new San Jose Heritage Rose Garden in March 1995.
Since 1997, Mel has directed operation of the all-volunteer garden expanding
the collection to the most varieties in the Western Hemisphere. He has
introduced thousands of people around the world to the Heritage Rose Garden
via the Internet and through garden tours, promoting it into an
international destination. He is a Trustee of the international Heritage
Rose Foundation, a member of the Santa Clara
County Rose Society and treasurer of the South Bay Heritage Rose Group. AND, an HMF Administrator..
