Philippe de Carteret le Cornu (October 20, 1861 St. Helier - January 23, 1944), Lieutenant-Bailiff of Jersey in 1934 [Michele Gayler provided the following information about Le Cornu:] His fullname is Philippe de Carteret Le Cornu, born September 3, 1861 in St. Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands. Son of Josué Le Cornu [1830 Trinity, Jersey - 1902] and Elizabeth de Carteret [b. 1823]. Josué was a nurseryman/seedsman. I believe his full title was Lieutenant Bailiff Philip de Carteret Le Cornu, OBE, Jurat of the Royal Court of Jersey. He had only one daughter - Lilian Jane Alexandrina Le Cornu. Michele also supplied a copy of an article about Le Cornu that appeared in the September 29, 1906, Jersey Week by Week. Here are some highlights from that article: Le Cornu was the fourth generation of a horticultural family. He was educated at Victoria College. He trained under his father at High View, as well as at other leading English nurseries. In 1880, at the age of 19, he became a member of the firm of of Joshua Le Cornu & Son. In 1895, Le Cornu opened The Jersey Nurseries at Almorah. Five years later, he bought the High View Nurseries from his father. The combined nurseries were then known as The Jersey and High View Nurseries. Interestingly enough, their specialty seems to have been trees.
