[From Denkwürdiger und nützlicher Rheinischer Antiquarius, Vol. 4, 1854, p. 262:] Said Doctor [Cartier] seems to be a lucky boy at all. After all, not much later [than 1804] he produced a rose that was pale yellow in some respects, smugly white in others, as a lover can see incredible things based on the findings. Cartier's rose, yellow or not, died soon after it was born.
