James Booth (1760 or 1770 Falkirk, Scotland - 1814 Flottbek near Hamburg)
From Die Welt der Rosen
Rose Breeder Booth, James & Sons. Germany, Hamburg (Flottbek near Altona).
Founded in 1795 by the Scotsman Jacob James Booth (in business till 1884), the nursery was mainly a distributor of the novelties of the day. An important mark in the history of German rose breeding was the appearance in 1816 in the nursery of the blooming seedling of ‘Maidens Blush’. It was first called ‘New Maidens Blush’, later renamed ‘Königin von Dänemark’, because the Flottbek nursery was situated just outside the city gates of Hamburg which at that time belonged to Holstein (united to Denmark by a personal union since 1806). Booth even had to fight in court to be allowed to use the new name.

James Booth died 1814.
