The Chateau de Laeken was built in 1782-4 as a summer palace for the Archduchess Maria Christina of Habsburg and her husband Albert von Sachsen-Teschen, the governors of the then Habsburg Netherlands. In 1831, it became the seat for the royal family of Belgium.
