Young Alexander III, after being educated at the Coleeraine Academical Insitute, had been packed off to the Royal Horticultural Society's gardens at Wisley. ...[He] was made manager in 1920, and his first big disaster was a fire, which destroyed the firm's breeding records in 1921. This was a serious loss but it relieved them from awkward questions about parentages...
In 1958, Pat returned to Newtownards where he was put in charge of the rose breeding. Alexander II did not retire completely, but at the age of 65 kept his own breeding programme...Alexander [Dickson] III died at home on 15 October, 1975...
