The gardens at Newby Hall created mostly in the early 1920s by Edward Compton.  The house was designed by Christopher Wren and built between 1691 - 1695.   The gardens hold a national collection of Cornus and there is a rose garden together with many fine peonies and Clematis throughout the gardens.  The double herbaceous borders were replanted between 2013 and 2015 and hold interest well into Autumn.
