No 33 PAUL'S SCARLET CLIMBER (Wichuraiana Climber) Introduced 1916 Vivid scarlet The habit of growth is vigorous, growing to a height of nine or ten feet, and makes an ideal Rose for a screen or arch. Unlike ramblers of the Dorothy Perkins type, it blooms not only on the new wood of the previous year, but also on the laterals, i.e. side shoots of previous years. These laterals should be pruned back to lour eyes and the new shoots of the previous year just tipped and tied-in early in March. If used as a screen the growths should be spread out fan-shape, when a lovely effect will be obtained. The plants should not be pruned hard the first year after planting—merely shorten the tips. Awarded a Gold Medal of the National Rose Society.
