Bred by Pierre-Hubert Portemer père (France, before 1850).
Introduced in France by Portemer in 1850 as 'William Griffith'.
Introduced in Australia by John J. Rule, Victoria Nursery in 1860 as 'William Griffith'.

Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Carmine-pink, lilac shading, ages to light pink .  Flowers glossy pink, changing to light satin-rose.  Strong fragrance.  Large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, cupped-to-flat, globular bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles.  Light green foliage.  5 leaflets.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Hardy.  vigorous.
