Origin:
Bred by Philippe-Victor Verdier (France, 1854).
Introduced in United Kingdom by Kelways Nursery in before 1895 as 'Docteur Bretonneau'.
Class:
Hybrid lactiflora.  
Bloom:
Deep pink, lilac shading.  8-10 broad guard petals; center petals narrower and curly.  Mild, rose fragrance.  Average diameter 5".  Large, very double, bomb bloom form.  Early.  
Habit:

Height: 33" to 37" (85 to 95cm).

Notes:
Verdier's 'Docteur Bretonneau' was first described as a very large, very full, vivid pink, bombé flower when first introduced. See also Guérin's peony of the same name.
