Bred by Antoine Levet (père) (France, 1868).
Introduced in Australia by George Brunning - St. Kilda Nurseries in 1873 as 'Madame Bérard'.

Bloom:
Yellow, copper center, salmon-pink outer petals.  Bright buff or fawn.  Strong fragrance.  Medium to large, very double, cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Climbing, few or no prickles/thorns.  Dark green foliage.  

Height: 8'2" to 10' (250 to 305cm).  Width: 4'11" to 8' (150 to 245cm).

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).

Notes:
Dedicated to the wife of a friend of the breeder in Lyon. Introduced 1870.

There may have been three roses said to be Mme. Berard in Europe:
Rougetel clone: Provenance Rougetel-1; Beales-2; Andre Eve-3.
L'Hay clone: Provenance L'Hay-1; Guillot-2; Hook-3. (light green foliage, numerous prickles on new growth)
