Introduced in Australia by George Brunning - St. Kilda Nurseries in 1873 as 'Duchesse d'Aosta'.

Class:

Hybrid Perpetual.

Bloom:

Carmine-pink, light pink outer petals, silver(y) reverse. (Rose groseille carminé). Mild, centifolia fragrance. Large, very double, flat bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. Leafy sepals buds.

Habit:

Light green foliage. 3 to 5 leaflets.

Growing:

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).

Notes:

Dedicated to Maria Vittoria Carlotta Enrichetta Giovanna dal Pozzo della Cisterna (August 9, 1847 Paris - November 8, 1876 Paris), who on May 30, 1867 married Amedeo di Savoia, Duke of Aosta, son of the Italian King Vittorio Emanuele II. Her husband was elected by the Cortes as King of Spain on November 16, 1870. He abdicated on February 11, 1873 when Spain was proclaimed a Republic. During the period 1870-73 the Duchess of Aosta was also Queen Consort of Spain.
