Nursery established by Theodor Froebel (July 31, 1810 Griesheim, Germany - October 3, 1893 Zürich) in 1835 in Zürich, Switzerland, which became famous under his son Karl Otto Froebel (December 27, 1844 Zürich - August 28, 1906 Zürich) for rare plants. Otto Froebel was succeeded by his son Robert (September 20, 1878 Zürich - April 29, 1966 Zug). The nursery was dissolved in 1933 and succeeded by the nursery of Gustav Ammann, who was since 1911 the Lead Garden Architect of Otto Froebel.
Introducer of the important European understock, known as Laxa, which is actually a variety of the species rose Rosa coriifolia Fries. Froebel did not discover Laxa.
