Bred by Kathleen Dunford (United Kingdom, circa 1948).
Introduced in United Kingdom by Fisk's Clematis Nursery in 1962 as 'Kathleen Dunford'.
Class:
Early Large Flowered.  
Bloom:
Rose-red, lighter edges.  Average diameter 8".  Single, semi-double bloom form.  Late spring to early summer, late summer.  
Habit:

Height: 6½' to 8' (200 to 245cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Plant in sun or partial shade.  sheltered.  It blooms on the previous year's growth, so resist the urge to prune it in early spring.
