Origin:
Bred by Henry Cobbett (United Kingdom, before 1873).
Class:
Early Large Flowered, Group 2.  
Bloom:
Mauve, red anthers.  6 to 8 petals.  Average diameter 8".  Single, ruffled edge bloom form.  Early autumn, early to midsummer.  
Habit:

Height: 10' to 12' (305 to 365cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Plant in sun or partial shade.  It blooms on the previous year's growth, so resist the urge to prune it in early spring.

Notes:
There is a discrepancy about the raiser of this plant, with some sources crediting Jackman as the breeder. It is likely that the Jackmans acquired this clematis from Cobbett, another nurseryman from Woking, and may have introduced it to commerce.
